Andre J Witkin, M.D.

Andre J Witkin, M.D.Andre J. Witkin, M.D., is a board certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal specialist and surgeon.  Dr. Witkin graduated magna cum laude with a BA in biology from Dartmouth College. He completed an MD with honors in research from Weill Cornell Medical College, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. He then completed a 2-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Witkin finished his fellowship in 2012 and came back to Tufts Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. Since coming back to Boston, Dr. Witkin has become one of the busiest vitreoretinal surgeons in New England, performing approximately 250 retina surgeries per year. He also serves as the Director of Clinical Research at the New England Eye Center of Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Witkin has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, as well as numerous book chapters and articles, and is an editor of the book entitled “Age-related Macular Degeneration: Current Management.”

Dr. Witkin is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He treats all conditions of the retina and vitreous, including retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, macular hole and pucker, post-cataract complications, ocular trauma, tumors, and uveitis.
